Foundation of the Charity
The charity was founded on the initiative of a married couple from Wiesloch, near Heidelberg, and two women from Hamburg who had gained knowledge of the social conditions in Nepal during a trip to the country in February 2004. They were moved by the contact they made with children in orphanages in Kathmandu and Beni. This prompted the speedy foundation of the charity following their return from the trip. |

Aims of the Charity
Help is needed for Nepal's disadvantaged children - and is so easy to give. Apart from food, education is the most important prerequisite for escaping the vicious circle of poverty.
At 40.4 percent, Nepal has the lowest literacy rate in southeast Asia. On average, 700 in 1,000 children of any given year start school; only 70 stay until they reach 16 and no more than 40 obtain their SLC (School Leaving Certificate), which is comparable to GCSE "O" levels. Only two in 1,000 children of any given year go on to complete a degree course at university.
The state has largely disowned its responsibility to provide free mandatory education of acceptable quality for everyone. Without private schools, where classes admittedly are also overcrowded and equipment and fittings are rudimentary, the Nepalese educational system would be even more inefficient.
One of our main aims is to help individual children with educational sponsorships.
A further goal is to provide help with clothing, medical care and medical aids like spectacles.
Everyday life is difficult for impoverished children in Nepal. Sports equipment, toys and books provide variety and fun.
We want to help underprivileged boys and girls with places in children's homes and other social projects. To do this, we need financial help.
